Here is a video of my unedited footage from my first day shooting for my short film.
I have made a few changes which include adding a scene and changing the conversation between Fia and her mother in the final scene.
Here are some photos and a video which show behind the scenes at the shoot for the dinner scene. I used my iPhone for time lapse to show the preparation. I gave my script to my friends and asked them to comment on it if they thought something should be changed. I asked people who were my age as that is mainly the demographic for my short film, therefore they will hopefully give really helpful constructive criticism. I also wanted to see their reaction to my short film and their initial thoughts as it is always a good idea to have a fresh set of eyes look at your work. Below is the script with many annotations. A really useful suggestion for my short film is to add another scene after the bath scene. I had originally thought about doing this just so the film is slightly longer and the idea is pushed further. I have taken into consideration the suggestions for the first scene but I am not sure if I agree with some of them. For example I don't want Max to come back with different food. However I do agree that some of the lines need to be shorter and more snappy, so I might just see how it goes when I actually film and see what sounds more natural. Overall the audience feedback has been incredibly useful!
Based on this table, I believe my audience will come from category E. However I am not talking about pensioners or unemployed people necessarily, I am talking about students. I think my film would appeal to students because generally we are a politically correct generation who have a particular interest in topical issues. Therefore they are more likely to engage in a film about violence against women. Also the main characters in my film are both teenagers, again why it may appeal more to a younger demographic as they could relate to them and may feel more compelled to watch it.
However, it is also difficult to put my audience into a category. This is because my film is essentially about relationships which everyone can relate to no matter what age or what class you may be. Therefore it is difficult to pin point exactly who my audience may be. This is also because it will appeal people who can relate to an abusive relationship with a significant other and also with themselves as primarily my film is about someone who has fabricated an imaginary person. Also, as my main character is female, I think my film may also appeal more to women. My secondary audience category would be B (middle-class). This is because this category is more likely to be left wing and therefore more sympathetic towards the issues of abuse. This is a really important scene in my short film so I want to plan all aspects of it.
Costume: Vi: I want my actress to wear grey jeans and a black vest. In my script I wrote that she is wearing a dress but I have changed my mind as I think that is too formal. She will be wearing a bit of mascara to make sure she doesn't look too young and she will put on lipstick during the scene. She will also need a watch as she keeps checking the time. Liam: I really want the audience to feel frightened of Liam. To achieve this I will dress him in black jeans and a dark striped shirt. Black has connotations of darkness and fear and it will also emphasis his facial hair. This costume is designed to mirror his dark personality. Mise-En-Scene: Table cloth for the kitchen table. Wine glasses Plates Cutlery Red/white wine Equipment: Canon camera Tripod Shot List: I am going to film in one location which is the actress's house as for my short film I need a kitchen, bathroom and balcony. Her balcony is perfect for my short film as you can see into her bedroom window from it which is a really important part of my script. Her house is also easy for my actor to get to and for my self, reducing stress on the days I film. ![]() I got this image of Vi's house off google maps. Where the arrow is pointing is where her kitchen is. A highly beneficial aspect of this location is that her road is opposite a quiet garden square meaning there is almost no city noise or traffic sounds. Therefore when I film in her kitchen I won't have to worry about background noise. I thought it would be a good idea to practise filming my actress in her home before I started to film my short film. This is because I recently got a new camera and wanted to test it out and learn how to use it well. Here are some shots from my test shoot: This test shoot was simple. I mainly shot close ups and medium shots of Vi in her bathroom. I practised pull focus and experimented with the ISO and aperture.
